Understand the examination

A Haryana examination. A distinct academic plan.

HPSC conducts the Haryana Civil Services (Executive Branch) and Other Allied Services examination. Shared General Studies foundations are useful; the HCS syllabus and Haryana context need deliberate attention.

01 / Preliminary

Build breadth. Practise precision.

Prepare General Studies alongside CSAT. Connect national topics with Haryana’s economy, society, institutions and culture. Use previous-year questions to guide revision.

02 / Main examination

Turn understanding into answers.

The January 2026 notified syllabus lists English and Hindi papers with essays, and General Studies I–IV. Plan written practice, issue analysis and Haryana-relevant examples.

03 / Interview

Prepare for a considered conversation.

Discuss your background, current issues and public-service motivation. Ask the academic team about current HCS interview-guidance availability before making plans.

Subject structure checked against the January 2026 HPSC syllabus. Confirm cycle-specific eligibility, marking rules and dates through the applicable official notice.

Prelims preparation

Build understanding before chasing question counts.

The notified Prelims syllabus separates General Studies and Civil Services Aptitude Test. Prepare both deliberately and use HPSC questions to understand the examination’s own demands.

General Studies: organise the breadth

Group study around history and the national movement, geography, polity, economy, culture, general science and current events. The syllabus also names Haryana’s economy, people, institutions and language. For each topic, learn the basic idea, connect it to a current or state example, then practise questions.

Keep factual revision concise: a timeline, a map, an institution’s function or a short comparison often reveals gaps more clearly than repeated highlighting. Use official sources to check a disputed fact.

CSAT: diagnose the skill gap

Practise comprehension, reasoning, analytical ability, decision making, basic numeracy and data interpretation. A short diagnostic can show whether you need to work on reading accuracy, mathematical concepts or the sequence of solving a problem.

Review the steps, not only the answer. Rework an error without the solution, then try a similar question. Read the applicable examination notice for qualifying conditions and marking rules; this page does not prescribe an unverified cut-off or penalty.

Subject orientation follows the January 2026 Haryana Government syllabus notification hosted by HPSC. These are study suggestions, not a statement of current BCM course inclusions. Read the official syllabus. Check the applicable advertisement and later notices for your cycle’s rules.

Mains preparation

Develop knowledge and the ability to express it.

The January 2026 syllabus includes English and Hindi with essays, alongside GS I–IV. Preparation needs language work and subject understanding, not only objective practice.

GS I · History, society & geography

Connect culture and modern history with social change and geographical processes. Build timelines, maps and examples; use the related Haryana issues identified in the syllabus to make state connections.

GS II · Constitution & governance

Study constitutional institutions, federal and local government, welfare and public-service delivery. Practise explaining how an institution works, what implementation problem arises and what an evidence-based response might involve.

GS III · Economy, technology & environment

Organise notes around growth, agriculture, infrastructure, technology, conservation, disasters and security. Separate a concept from its application: for example, understand irrigation before analysing a state-level agricultural issue.

GS IV · Ethics, integrity & aptitude

Move beyond definitions to reasoned judgement. For a practice case, identify stakeholders, competing duties, available options and reasons for a defensible decision. The notified syllabus includes ethics and case-study areas.

English, Hindi and essay practice

Make room for comprehension, precise expression and organised essays. The English syllabus includes précis, usage and grammar; the Hindi syllabus includes translation, composition and passage-based work. Practise the specified tasks and review clarity, accuracy and relevance. A preference for a teaching medium does not remove the need to check the language-paper requirements.

Subject orientation follows the January 2026 Haryana Government syllabus notification hosted by HPSC. These are study suggestions, not a statement of current BCM course inclusions. Read the official syllabus. Check the applicable advertisement and later notices for your cycle’s rules.

PYQs, revision & review

Make each practice session change the next one.

Past questions help you interpret a syllabus. They do not guarantee repetition, and an old paper’s structure must not be treated as the rule for a new cycle.

Turn a PYQ into a learning task

Tag the question to a syllabus topic, identify the skill being tested and note what evidence is needed. For an objective question, review each option. For a written prompt, underline its directive and plan the points before drafting. Record the source and year so you can distinguish historical questions from current requirements.

Revise from an error log

Classify mistakes as concept, fact, interpretation, recall or expression. Revisit the source, correct the note and try the task again after an interval. For written answers, review relevance, structure, factual support and a clear conclusion. Ask the academic team what HCS evaluation is currently available; these review suggestions do not promise an included service.

The linked Set B resource is incomplete at Q93–Q96 and uses an unofficial educational key. Use it with those limits and cross-check disputed answers.

The Haryana connection

Go beyond a separate GK notebook.

The syllabus explicitly includes Haryana in Prelims and related Haryana issues in GS I–III. Connect state facts to the wider topic instead of treating them as an isolated list.

Check the notified syllabus
  1. Understand the stateUse maps and timelines to connect Haryana’s geography, history and cultural institutions. Distinguish an official fact from an unsourced compilation.
  2. Follow public issuesConnect agriculture, industry, employment and public services with the relevant GS topic. Record the year and official source of any state data you use.
  3. Practise the applicationFor a governance or economic issue, identify the institution, explain the problem and develop a relevant Haryana example. Avoid adding a state reference that does not answer the question.

Questions before you begin

Make an informed preparation decision.

How is HCS preparation different from UPSC preparation?

There is overlap in General Studies, but HCS requires its own notified syllabus, question-paper practice and Haryana-specific preparation. Do not assume that every UPSC course or test is an HCS offering.

Which syllabus should I follow?

Start with the HPSC syllabus notification dated January 2026 linked below, and check the Commission’s latest notice for your examination cycle. Eligibility, paper rules and dates must be checked against the applicable advertisement.

Are current HCS batches and fees confirmed here?

No batch start date, fee or seat availability is advertised on this page. Request current course details from the academic team, including medium, mode, materials and practice arrangements.

Can I enquire separately about Prelims and Mains tests?

Yes. Choose HCS Prelims Test Series or HCS Mains Test Series in the optional interest field. These are enquiries, not test registrations; the team must confirm operational availability.

Is Hindi or English medium guaranteed?

You can share your preferred medium in the form. The team will confirm the medium and delivery mode available for the current HCS offering.
